Philip Seymour Hoffman dead at 46: 50 bags of pain reliever-laced heroin, prescription drugs found in actor’s home, 40 Bethune ST, New York

Sources say about 50 baggies of heroin were found in the actor’s apartment — and were stamped ‘Ace of Spades or ‘Ace of Hearts,’ which are types manufactured with a powerful pain reliever called fentanyl. Investigators also discovered five prescription drugs used to treat conditions as varied as attention-deficit disorder and high blood pressure. Broadway theaters will pay tribute to the late actor by dimming their marquee lights for a minute at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The 50 bags of heroin found in the West Village apartment where Philip Seymour Hoffman died with a needle in his arm are a brand local junkies know all too well, sources said Monday.
Stamped “Ace of Spades” or “Ace of Hearts,” it’s heroin cut with a powerful pain reliever called fentanyl and “it’s definitely in demand,” said a longtime heroin addict.
“From what I know, it’s really good,” said the addict, who is familiar with the New York City drug scene and asked not to be identified. “That’s what the people want … I think they’re getting it for cheap, too.”

Police are now trying to determine where Hoffman bought the heroin he appears to have overdosed on. His body is with the medical examiner and an autopsy is expected to be done later Monday.
Some of the packets found in Hoffman’s pad were full of horse. Others looked like they had been tapped. And a charred spoon that the 46-year-old actor appeared to have used to heat up his last high was found near his body, sources said.
Hoffman, who in 2006 won the Best Actor Academy Award playing the title role in “Capote,” admitted last year to falling off the wagon after two decades of being drug free and developing a heroin habit that sent him to rehab.
